Is it arthritis?
Q: I have a 1 1/2 yr old pitt bull, very tame and loves my 2 girls ages 6 and 8. she is our lovable lap dog. for over 3 months she has been favoring one leg (found nothing wrong with leg or paw) and has a hard time getting up from a laying position and walking. it is very expensive to take her to a vet because they need to do xrays and blood work. please help. i need a medication that is not a prescription unless you can prescribe it to her and we order it online through pet meds.
A: Only things i can recommend are supplements which may help like cosequin or super joint enhancer. also pick up extra antioxidant nutrients at health food store like vitamin e at 400iu daily as well as vitamin c in form of ester c at 1000 mg twice daily. also consider proanthocyanidins from health food store at 1 mg per pound twice daily and you could try white willow bark from health food store which is what aspirin is derived from.
Shop for: vitamin, joint enhancer, aspirin

Aspirin
Q: Should a dog have buffered or non-buffered aspirin and what is the dosage to use?
A: Buffered would be preferred to non-buffered because it is gentler on the stomach. the dosage is weight-related. check with your veterinarian's office.
Shop for: aspirin

Skin desease
Q: My pug is about 5 years old. her skin has dry, rough patches, lots of dendruffs , she smells bad & scratches herself all the time. i think she has some kind of eczema or skin problem. all medications, washes, lotions failed to cure. please help.
A: Need vet attention, possibly consider vet dermatologist for full allergy workup. in meantime try chlorihexiderm shampoo from 1800petmeds every few days
Shop for: 1800petmeds
Heartworm treatment
Q: I have a dog, mattie, who has heart worms. i am sure they are quite advanced, what are my choices, what should i do and what needs to be done is their anything i can do for him i really can't afford a $600 vet bill which is what i'm told treatment would cost, is there some way i can treat him myself at home cheaper. please help me and mattie. thank you
A: Only option to treat is with a drug called immiticide at your vet. some people will put these dogs on once monthly preventative pills like interceptor or heartguard to kill the baby heartworms, but will not kill the adults. check with your vet
